Watch of the Week: Omega’s New Speedmaster Moonwatch in White
Daniel Craig teased a new Speedmaster Moonwatch in 2023. Well, now it’s officially here.

Whether you’re new to watches or a seasoned collector, the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch appeals to the senses. How can it not? After all, this is the same very watch that has been officially worn by NASA astronauts since 1965, and will always be regarded as the first watch worn on the moon.
It’s also arguably the most iconic chronograph of our time.
So how do you update a watch that needs no update? Give it a new dial, of course. For the first time—and much to the delight of eager #Speedmaster fanatics—Omega has unveiled a Speedmaster Moonwatch with a lacquered white dial inspired by space exploration.
Besides the screamingly obvious—this is a handsome watch that ticks all the boxes in terms of style, quality and affordability—Omega has never produced a white dial Speedmaster Moonwatch so this offering is sure to pique the interest of savvy collectors.
The idea of a white dial Moonwatch has long been a fantasy for collectors rather than a reality. But when Daniel Craig, Omega’s current 007 representative, adorned a white dial Speedmaster at Planet OMEGA Exhibition in New York late last year, the watch world was abuzz with speculation: could there be a white dial Speedmaster Moonwatch on the horizon?
With the new iteration launched just this week, it’s easy to see why a white dial Speedmaster was the obvious choice for the lineage of this great collection. The white dial not only represents the white and black colours of astronaut spacesuits, but it specifically harks back to the design prerequisites of the original Moonwatch of 1957: the watch had to offer an easy-to-read display with superb legibility, hence the white hands and indices on the original black dial. Here, we’re given the exact opposite, which achieves the same result… superb legibility. The use of a red “Speedmaster” name adds to the effect, inspired by the Commander stripes on astronaut suits, as does the glossy lacquered finish of the step dial—a technical first for the Moonwatch dial.
For the uninitiated, the new Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch pays homage to the ALASKA I prototype of 1969, a project commissioned by NASA to design the perfect space watch.
Run, don’t spacewalk, as we anticipate this release being one of the hottest of the year.
