This country’s ultimate barefoot luxury adventure sets sail for a debut season this month – PONANT’s faultless three-mast yacht, Le Ponant, offering what will be its only Australian expeditions.
In Australia for a just one season, this is a boastful and exclusive opportunity to engage a yacht, indeed an experience, that represents PONANT’s unmatched sophistication and sense of exploration.
Le Ponant is defined by its clean lines and elegant form, cutting an undeniably refined figure as it traverses the waters around Western Australia’s Kimberley region. Its striking appearance and 88-metre length belies the intimate atmosphere within — with 16 staterooms and suites catering to a maximum of 32 guests and a crew-to-guest-ratio of more than 1 to 1 ensuring guests’ every desires are met.
Having recently undergone a lavish renovation by French luxury architecture studio Jean-Philippe Nuel, Le Ponant facilitates exploration and elevated repose in equal measure. Common areas include a sun deck, ‘marina’, lounge and Le Diamant panoramic restaurant, boasting locally sourced menus of acclaim and which come paired to French wines and champagne.
While it’s the height of luxury onboard, careful attention is also paid to reducing Le Ponant’s impact on the surrounding wilderness. Technical innovations have resulted in a reduction in emissions, while the Kimberley experience itself has been designed with environmental and cultural protection in mind.
Starting this month, PONANT is offering a series of luxury sailing expeditions across the Northern and Southern regions of the Kimberley. Undertaken in partnership with the Paspaley group, both regional trips include itineraries that also feature a flight across the breathtaking Kimberley landscape aboard the pearling company’s vintage Grumman Mallard amphibious aircraft.
Each offered adventure showcases the unspoilt and rugged landscape of the Kimberley — red soil, ochre cliffs, remote inlets, roaring waterfalls, saltwater crocodiles.
Highlights include discovering pristine mangrove systems on a zodiac excursion; discovering the high sandstone cliffs of the King George River Gorge and reaching the Twin Falls (the highest in Western Australia); gaining an insight into the singular culture and heritage of Australia’s First Nations Peoples; encountering the saltwater crocodile in its natural habitat (thankfully, from afar).
Each itinerary is bespoke to each trip, with this unique flexibility allowing PONANT’s destination experts to truly customise the expedition to best showcase the beauty of the Kimberley at that exact moment.
Le Ponant’s Kimberley sailing experiences are now available to book through until September 2023. Do not miss out on what is a distinct opportunity to forge lifelong memories.
