A Private Island in the Maldives Is on the Market for AU$103 Million
The four-villa island is part of the new Baccarat Maldives development and can be purchased using stablecoins.
The Maldives has no shortage of private-island resorts, but a new offering at Baccarat Hotel & Residences Maldives is taking the concept in a slightly different direction. The development is offering an entire private island with four fully furnished villas, its own beach and reef, and a purchase process designed specifically for buyers who hold digital currency.
The island sits at the southern edge of the Baccarat Maldives main island, with its own beach and reef. It has four fully furnished four-bedroom villas, each with a private 19.8-metre swimming pool, a gym, twin yoga pavilions, and wraparound terraces with views of the water. There’s also gated access via a private causeway, a dedicated security team, and staff around the clock.
Together, the four villas are priced at AU$103 million, or AU$26 million apiece. They come with all the furnishings already in place, with architecture by HKS, interiors by 1508 London, and lighting by L’Observatoire International.

The island is being offered through Corn, a private members club for people who own cryptocurrency. For a limited time, Corn has exclusive rights to offer the property and is allowing buyers to pay with stablecoins, which are basically digital dollars designed to hold their value at approximately AU$1.43.
In this case, buyers can use USDC, a type of stablecoin, to pay for the island. So if someone already has their money in USDC, they can use that digital money to buy the property rather than converting it into traditional dollars first.

Corn handles the transaction and coordinates the purchase process. For buyers who aren’t quite in the market for a whole island, Corn also has an allocation of four beachfront residences at the development. Two three-bedroom homes are priced at AU$10.4 million each, while two four-bedroom residences are asking AU$16.6 million. Those can also be purchased with stablecoins.
“Stablecoins have been moving money around the world for years,” explains Chris Spadafora, founder of Corn. “What’s changing is where they’re welcome. When a name like Baccarat Maldives accepts them for its residences, it tells every holder that their money is as good as anyone’s.”
The larger Baccarat development will include a hotel, private residences, golf course, marina, dining venues, and wellness facilities.
