Spraying Power
A new crop of extraits de parfum delivers distinctive scents with staying power, taking you from the morning spritz to cocktail hour.
Most fragrances aren’t built for the long haul—spritz on a cologne or eau de toilette in the morning, and you probably won’t be able to smell it by the early afternoon. Fortunately, some of the world’s best perfumers have recently released long-lasting extraits de parfum (formulas with the highest concentration of perfume oil in the mix) that offer true all-day wear. Add one of these memorable scents to your rotation, and don’t be surprised when you’re still getting compliments at cocktail hour.
AMOUAGE SEQUENCE

One of the newest members of Amouage’s Essences line, Sequence uses a contrast of fruity top notes (lychee, raspberry) with rich leather and oud to explore the nature of time. The longer you wear it, the more it reveals itself as a serious blend grounded in woody aromas, thanks to the six months the perfume oil spends infusing sandalwood chips and another six months spent aging in oak barrels.
$799 for 100 ml
Perfumer: Julien Rasquinet
Key Notes: lychee, raspberry, saffron, osmanthus, oud, leather
Tested Longevity: Seven hours
XERJOFF X LAMBORGHINI AVANGUARDIA
Cherry is an unlikely starting point for a fragrance inspired by a supercar, but Avanguardia makes it feel right at home behind the wheel. The sweetness is brief; what follows is darker, with the plush texture of violet and a woody, leathery finish that stays close to the skin.
$789 for 100ml.
Perfumer: Xerjoff founder Sergio Momo, in collaboration with Lamborghini.
Key Notes: cherry, davana, black violet, patchouli, tonka bean, styrax
Tested Longevity: Seven and a half hours.
CREED IRIS DEBONAIR

A well-cut suit is the reference point for Creed’s latest fragrance, and the fit is convincing. Lavender gives it the crispness of a classic fougère, while iris softens the edges with a powdery finish. The effect is composed without being stiff: something you could wear from a morning appointment through to dinner.
$559 for 100 ml.
Perfumer: Undisclosed
Key Notes: bergamot, absinthe, English lavender, violet leaf, French iris pallida, ambrette
Tested Longevity: Nine hours
GOLDFIELD & BANKS PACIFIC ROCK SWELL

Pacific Rock Moss put Goldfield & Banks on the fragrance map when it launched a decade ago. Now founder and artistic director Dimitri Weber returns to the Australian coast with a more potent expression of the scent that started it all. Created with perfumer Leonardo Lucheze, Pacific Rock Swell is a 30 percent extrait that trades some of its predecessor’s breeziness for deeper waters: bright bergamot gives way to seaweed, Australian sandalwood and ambergris, resulting in a richer, more mineral take on the house’s signature aquatic freshness.
$375 for 100 ml
Perfumer: Leonardo Lucheze
Key Notes: bergamot, seaweed, geranium, Australian sandalwood, ambergris
Tested longevity: Seven hours
SAGE & SALT SACRED EMBER

Sage & Salt’s third extrait de parfum was carefully crafted to evoke one of humanity’s oldest spiritual rituals: lighting things that smell great on fire. Redolent of palo santo, leather, tobacco flowers, and patchouli, its invocation of campfire and church incense will keep the aura of sacred smoke around you all day.
$195 for 60 ml
Perfumer: Sarah Horowitz
Key Notes: bergamot, tobacco flower, patchouli, palo santo, incense
Tested Longevity: Seven hours
MAISON CRIVELLI MUSC NURĀSANA

Though Thibaud Crivelli’s indie scent house is known for its excellent ouds, this release proves it’s just as adept with the more intimate musk family. Its name is a cross-cultural portmanteau (“nur” means “light” in Arabic; “asana” means “posture” in Sanskrit), and the blend of bergamot, rose, and incense evokes the refreshing feeling of the satisfying first stretch you take after getting out of bed in the morning.
Around $745 for 100 ml
Perfumer: Gaël Montero
Key Notes: musk, rose, bergamot, olibanum incense, tonka bean.
Tested Longevity: Seven hours
DIOR SAUVAGE EXTRAIT

Sauvage, the world’s best-selling men’s scent, just got its most pronounced edition yet: richer, darker, and more nuanced than the five versions that came before it. Sauvage Extrait builds on the franchise’s familiar blend of bergamot, lavender, and vetiver with a “chiaroscuro” mix of dark and bright woods. The heft and sensuality of Vietnamese oud, Virginia cedar, and Indonesian patchouli will make this a bottle you turn to again and again.
$280 for 100 ml
Perfumer: Francis Kurkdjian
Key Notes: oud, patchouli, cedar, lavender, vetiver, bergamot
Tested Longevity: Eight hours
LOUIS VUITTON AMBRE LEVANT
Technically, this vibrating amber-oud masterpiece is an eau de parfum—but it lasts longer than some extraits de parfums we’ve sprayed on. Designed to capture the glimmer of golden hour in the Middle East, it’s a nod to that moment when everything is punctuated with more colour. The result is a playful but sophisticated spin on the boldness of ambergris and oud.
$720 for 100ml
Perfumer: Jacques Cavallier Belletrud
Key Notes: ambergris, oud wood, mandarin, white pepper, cinnamon
Tested Longevity: Seven and a half hours
MARC-ANTOINE BARROIS GANYMEDE

Ten years after launching his fragrance house, cult French creator Marc-Antoine Barrois has finally arrived at David Jones. Named for the largest moon in the solar system, Ganymede makes a compelling introduction: mandarin gives way to salty immortelle and a cool, almost metallic leather accord. Created with renowned French nose Quentin Bisch, it wears lightly but leaves a trail that lingers and is hard to mistake for anything else.
$720 for 100 ml.
Perfumers: Marc-Antoine Barrois and Quentin Bisch
Key Notes: mandarin, osmanthus, immortelle, leather accord, Akigalawood
Tested Longevity: Seven and a half hours
