If Stonebrook on the outskirts of Brisbane surpasses its $20m price guide it could hit a new benchmark for property in the Queensland capital.
The glamorous resort-like estate, owned by JLL Hotels executive Mike Batchelor and his interior designer wife Margie, sits on a 2ha parcel at 598 London Rd in Chandler, a semi-rural Brisbane suburb 17kms from the CBD. The pair purchased the mostly vacant property five years ago for $1.5 million and then spent millions more building their dream home on the site.
Just finished this year Stonebrook was designed by New Zealand architects Sumich Chaplin drawing inspiration from both a Queenstown villa and African safari lodge. Spread across almost 1600sq m, it includes a four-bedroom main house with a two-bedroom guest wing and parking for up to eight cars.
The decadent homestead has a stunning contemporary facade and enviable internal finishes to match. Forming the geographical and metaphorical heart of the home, its gourmet kitchen has Gaggenau and Sub Zero appliances with a butler’s pantry, there are multiple indoor and outdoor entertaining zones, and for after hours gatherings the ‘writer’s room’ features a bar inspired by the iconic Raffles Hotel in Singapore. But it doesn’t stop there, Stonebrook also has a great room with statement fireplace, a state-of-the-art home cinema with leather recliners and a billiards room.
Further entertaining is extended outside with a huge custom made circular fire pit, half basketball court, dressage arena and stables, plus a private golfing range, cricket net, infinity edge saltwater pool, and heated spa. Backyard parties at Stonebrook have the potential to be next level with a pool house featuring a commercial Beech pizza oven, Wolf barbecue, wood burning fireplace and another bar.
Other luxury finishes include French Oak and sisal flooring, 6m high ceilings, recycled timber wall panelling, Wyer + Craw walk-in wardrobes and a temperature-controlled wine cellar, alarm system, CCTV and fully irrigated grounds via an underground bore. The triple-car garage is gym-ready with a full bathroom as well as a Finnish sauna.
To date the highest price paid for a residential property in Brisbane was just short of the $20.5 million paid in April by for a riverfront Queenslander at 101 Welsby St, New Farm.
