There’s a lot of hype around the long-awaited release of Dune: Part Two, and if you’re a fan of the epic 1965 novel’s big-screen adaptation, this soon-to-be-built villa inspired by the blockbuster Denis Villeneuve-directed franchise will tickle your sci-fi fancy.
The futuristic pad, dubbed Dragonfly, is being designed and constructed by UAE-based architects ISTO and is set to take shape in Dubai‘s La Mer neighborhood, not too far from the desert valleys near Abu Dhabi that stood in for the fictional planet Arrakis.
Measuring a whopping 2,500 sqm, the jaw-dropping mansion will be modelled specifically after the dystopian film’s ornithopters, a type of aircraft that glides through the sky by flapping its insect-like wings.

“The design inspiration lies in imitating the structure of the dragonfly wings,” said lead designer Anton Yaroshenko in a press statement. The long, flat roofline and the silhouette of two open wings are complemented by lighting installations and metal decorations on the facade that replicate the intricate markings of a dragonfly.
The custom residence will be largely made from a combination of metal, stone, and glass, in addition to plaster and water. Altogether, the massive house will comprise nine bedrooms. Sinuous floor-to-ceiling windows look over a waterfall-fed swimming pool to the shimmering sea and the iconic Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower.

“A significant emphasis is devoted to the villa’s surrounding landscape,” Yaroshenko explained. “Water features are positioned around the entire perimeter of the Dragonfly and depict the brutal, accurate, and well-balanced architectural contours in the reflection.” The designer also noted “to pay special attention to the water sculpture in the right villa wing. The stream of water grinds the plane of stones and simulates a deceptive feeling of teleporting to the universe of Dune.”

Dragonfly is in the early stages of development and is not currently for sale. Construction is estimated to be completed by the end of the year, and the home is expected to be valued at a hefty $53 million to $61 million.
