Just a four-minute drive from Balmoral Beach, where locals eat crunchy, Balmain bugs and drink Assyrtiko by the sea, this low-maintenance home is rich in what matters.
From the private, separate entrance, with internal lift access and double lock-up garage to the bright rooftop terrace, this is luxury without equal. The free-flowing, open plan layout comprises three bedrooms, oversized bathrooms, and an entertainer’s kitchen, with butler’s pantry.
The kitchen is a testament to culinary excellence, featuring a complete suite of Sub Zero and Wolf appliances. Dinner parties are a cinch with inbuilt fridge, freezer, wine fridge, large ovens and an additional dishwasher and sink. Natural Taj Mahal Quartzite stone is used throughout the kitchen and butler’s pantry to enhance a warm and refined palette of natural materials and aged bronze.
From the kitchen there are wide connected terraces, designed for dining and gardening, with views that stretch beyond. Lead architect Phillip Mathieson says the brief was to develop a concept that emulated a home.
“The pared back material palette is an intentional decision,” he notes. “We believe that there is beauty in simplicity. We practice considered restraint, and focus rather on rational planning, well-resolved details and creating an atmosphere of calm. We strive to seamlessly incorporate elements such as natural light, elegant proportions, and quality materials to capture timeless design outcomes.”
One of three site-sensitive designs in The Hampden, by leading property developer Abadeen, Residence No. 2 exudes a timeless allure.
Outdoors
Facing due North, the orientation means the home benefits from northern light and the elevated position provides views to Clontarf Tidal Pool and over the 250-metre stretch of white sand at Chinaman’s Beach.
Spacious and serene, this sophisticated home has been finished off by lauded landscape design firm Dangar Barin Smith.
The firm’s Tom Smith rhapsodises about the residence’s lush ‘elevated landscaped gardens’ that frame the northern harbour views and extend the green canopy from the tree covered park to the east.
“We were quite conscious of ensuring the landscape aesthetic didn’t overpower the wider natural landscape context,” says Smith. “For this reason, we worked to integrate native species into the landscape design, to blend into this context whilst also for their low water usage and ability to attract birds.”
A unique collaboration between Abadeen, Mathieson and Dangar Barin Smith, with a shared vision to create the feel of a grand residence within an apartment dwelling, Residence No.2 at The Hampden Mosman is the last word in sumptuous living.
