Villa Biscaya is something of an icon on the Sydney real estate scene. The romantic pink and green Spanish mission mansion last changed hands in 2021 when the current owner, former art collector and options trader David Waterhouse, bought it for $10.25 million.
Currently Bethwyn Richards and Steven Chen of The Agency have the property listed with a $28 million price guide.
Prior to that the unique Hollywood-inspired four-bedroom home, also known as Villa Biscaya, was on and off the market for four years on behalf of medical entrepreneur Robert Gregg and his wife Elaine.
Designed by Alan Edgecliff Stafford, a prominent Sydney architect in the 1920s, the glamorous trophy home is a socialite in itself having hosted several high profile charity soirees and making appearances in fashion magazines, the film Mao’s Last Dancer as well as reality shows such as The Bachelor, The Voice and Married at First Sight.
Perched on a 1126sq m block opposite exclusive girls’ school Kambala, and down the road from Kincoppal Rose Bay, Villa Biscaya has sweeping views of Rose Bay Beach and the harbour.
Inside the timeless interiors feature wrought iron balustrades, polished Huon pine floorboards, re-laid stone tiles and a stunning leadlight statement window over the grand double height foyer.
Beyond the dramatic entry there are palatial formal rooms including the lounge with a period stone fireplace and arched French doors opening to a long covered terrace. The stately dining room is spacious enough for entertaining on a grand scale and also spills out to the alfresco space and gardens.
In the family friendly kitchen there is an additional meals area plus a second outdoor space.
On the first floor there are four bedrooms, one of which is the enormous main suite with sunroom, vast dressing room and full bath ensuite.
Outdoors and the magical grounds feature meandering paths, established landscaping offering total privacy and a Mediterranean style pool area complete with renovated cabana that doubles as a luxury guest suite with kitchenette, bathroom and rooftop terrace.
A pretty package as is, Villa Biscaya also has the added bonus of DA approved plans for an additional floor to unlock an even more exceptional backdrop of Sydney Harbour.
