Saint Laurent And Girard-Perregaux Revive A Retro Classic
The two outwardly disparate brands revisit the Swiss manufacture’s ahead-of-its-time Casquette watch.
Mechanical watchmaking has never been more popular. So, naturally, Saint Laurent—through the French fashion house’s Rive Droit sub-label—and Girard-Perregaux have decided to revive the latter’s iconic digital timepiece. In a collaboration no one saw coming, the Casquette 2.0 posits a modern take on a watch that was already ahead of its time.
First released in 1976, the Girard-Perregaux Casquette represented a rejection of the typical constraints of haute horology, with its sleek silhouette and futuristic sci-fi design—so too its limited run of 8000 examples—cementing it as a cult favourite among collectors. Featuring a tubular LED display and a—gasp!—quartz movement, it was perhaps the most fitting response to the quartz crisis at the time.

Limited to 100 examples, the Saint Laurent x Girard-Perregaux Casquette 2.0 retains the case and bracelet design of the original, however renders it in aptly of-the-now materials; black ceramic and black PVD-treated grade 5 titanium. In keeping with ergonomic design principles, the case has also been slightly curved to hug the wrist for optimum comfort. Equipped with a chronograph function, the newcomer is also able to display the time in a second location.
