VACHERON CONSTANTIN

Of all the showstoppers on display this year, few turned heads like Vacheron Constantin’s Les Cabinotiers Berkley Grand Complication, a piece that showcases the pinnacle of haute watchmaking. The culmination of 11 years of development, comprising 63 complications and 2,877 components, it surpasses the record already held by the maison for its equally impressive Reference 57260.
The distinguishing feature is its Chinese perpetual calendar, a watchmaking feat considering that the nation’s complicated calendar system has a 60-year cycle, which includes leap months every three years.
Meanwhile, the revered Overseas collection received a new colour update, with the brand adding its own interpretation of the trending green dial of recent years. A rich, olive face features a satin-finished centre and velvet-finished flange; the new hue is available on the 35mm gem-set, 41 mm date, 42.5 mm chronograph and 41 mm dual-time models. But amid the high complications and intricate design details of some of Vacheron Constantin’s most popular collections, it was the newest Patrimony Manual-Winding [above that most piqued the interest of loyalists. It was hard not to linger at the sight of the latest time-only models in both pink and white gold, visualisingjust how perfect this 39 mm dress watch would sit on the wrist.
Vacheron Constantin achieves the perfect balance between rounded curves and taut lines by reducing the size of the time-only models by 1 mm which, remarkably, does make a difference. The Patrimony has always been inspired by the minimalist watches of the 1950s. Now, with its new dimensions (which inch closer to the original, and coveted, 34mm sizing), antique silver-toned dial, and exquisite gold material, this is easily one of the greatest modern dress-watch staples, period. A fitting climax to a week spent in the horological heaven that is Watches & Wonders.
