PIAGET

For Piaget, 150 years is a long time to be at the top of the game. But the luxury Swiss watchmaker and jeweller, who this year celebrates its sesquicentennial, wouldn’t have it any other way. There was a lot riding on Piaget and its 2024 novelties to mark such a momentous occasion.
Enter, the Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon, one of the highlights of this year’s fair. Setting a new record as the world’s thinnest tourbillon, the new Altiplano needs to be seen and held to be believed. At just 2 mm thick and housing a flying tourbillon complication—the complication most prized by watchmakers—it pushes the boundaries of horological ingenuity. Over the course of three years, 90 percent of the components of the original ultra-thin Altiplano Ultimate Concept had to be redesigned to house the added flying tourbillon. It’s a breakthrough achievement in watchmaking, applauded by the community in Geneva.
While Piaget let that watch do most of the talking, it would be remiss not to mention the company’s updates to the eduring Polo Date collection. Earlier this year, Piaget introduced the Polo 79, a spectacular 38 mm refresh of the original which caused an internet frenzy. Not resting on its laurels, the brand has added two new additions to the Piaget Polo Date 150th Anniversary Edition (abovel, in 42 mm and 36 mm, with each version produced in a series of 300 rare pieces. The Polo 79 and new Polo Date timepieces strike the perfect chord between a storied past and modern style nuances, providing plenty of cause for celebration.
