Watch of the Week: Bulgari Launches the Octo Finissimo Sketch
The new Octo Finissimo draws inspiration from the Italian tradition of “schizzo”—or, sketch.

Not many luxury brands can today claim a 140-year history and still be around to tell a tale (or two). In the case of Bulgari, however, the luxury watch and jewellery manufacturer is doing just that. Celebrating 140 years of extraordinary Italian design, the Roman brand is honouring its milestone with an update to its flagship watch model: the Octo Finissimo.
Bulgari has ventured into uncharted territory with its new spin on the revered Octo, drawing inspiration from the long-standing Italian tradition of “schizzo”, a rapid-sketching technique that has been used since the Renaissance.
The Octo Finissimo Automatic Sketch builds off the popularity of the 2022 Sketch model, only this time, it is available in three new iterations; in steel, in rose gold, and the Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Sketch.
Available in limited quantities, it was the idea of Bulgari’s product creation executive director, Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani, to illustrate a dial that revealed the movement’s back—essentially, you can admire the view of the case back from the front, if that makes sense. The new Octo Finissimo Sketch has all the hallmarks of its 2022 predecessor, but this time it’s as if Buonamassa Stigliani has run wild with his imagination to create something quirky yet still quintessentially ‘Bulgari’.
If there is one design feat that you can point out regarding the Octo Finissimo, and there are many, it’s its form factor. If you’ve had the chance to wear this piece, you’ll know how comfortable it is, ever so slightly hugging the wrist in a way that seems proportionally perfect. Now, with the new Octo Finissimo Sketch, it’s more than just wearing a watch; you’re wearing a piece of art, albeit somewhat rough-hewn, even for Bulgari’a standards… but that’s why it works!
The automatic versions are limited to 280 pieces in steel and 70 pieces in rose gold; the Chronograph GMT in Steel is limited to 140 individually numbered pieces. All three iterations bear the Italian words “Edizione Limitata” and “1884 – 2024” on the case back.
