A Night At The Museum
Our contributing watch editor Brynn Wallner hit the stacks at The Morgan Library & Museum, sneaking her way in after dark on a quest for timeless horological beauty.
The Morgan Library & Museum, located on Madison Avenue in the heart of New York City, is one for the books. An exemplar of American Baroque, it was conceived between 1902 and 1906 by Charles McKim of McKim, Mead & White—the same architects who designed the original Penn Station and the Brooklyn Museum.
Created to house the impressive book collection of the late financier and bibliophile Pierpont Morgan, the Morgan’s noteworthy collection includes early manuscripts by Lord Byron, Edgar Allan Poe and Herman Melville, as well as three Gutenberg Bibles.
The hallowed halls underwent a significant renovation by Renzo Piano in 2006, doubling the exhibition space and further increasing the Morgan’s architectural pedigree. This year marks the 100th anniversary of its opening to the public, and this series of photographs by Jeremy Liebman offers an after dark peek at the lavish interior.
