Suit up on water or land as two of Blancpain’s emblematic dive watches explore dressier territory.
Blancpain has been noticeably bold of late with the directions it has taken its revered Fifty Fathoms model. Having spent most of the last 18 months leaning hard into its history as the world’s first modern dive watch, recent times have seen the house pivot towards exploring the concept of the model as a canvas for the more formal arm of horology.
Now, in the most intrepid step yet for the series, Blancpain has dropped two solid red gold iterations of the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe—a model that, in addition to its already eyebrow-raising series of complications, has also received a ceramic variant in the last couple of months.

The Bathyscaphes’ dials instantly betray their status as a watch designed to blur the lines between functionality and formality. The Quantième Complet Phases de Lune takes a bounding leap into haute territory with its combination of moonphase and complete calendar, while the Chronographe Flyback presents an option that, while sportier, wouldn’t look out of place on the red carpet.
Above all, however, red gold is the star of the show here. The model’s unique case and, optionally, bracelet, nudge the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe into dress watch turf, and towards the six-figure price bracket. It’s a curious step for an historically rugged model, but also a poignant statement of intent from a brand eager not to be pigeonholed.
