A Store Is Born: Loake Brings Timeless Craftsmanship to Sydney
Loake Shoemakers proudly unveils its newly renovated flagship store on Elizabeth Street, designed to showcase an extensive collection of their styles.
There are countless shoemakers out there operating under the pretence of heritage and tradition, but few can say claim to be as influential in the realm of high-end quality footwear as Loake. Started more than 140 years ago, when three brothers set up a factory in England’s shoemaking heartland of Northamptonshire, the brand is synonymous with British artisanry.
While Loake shoes remain a staple among well-dressed British men, the brand has, until now, had to rely on word of mouth to appeal to discerning Aussie gents. That’s set to change with the opening of a Sydney flagship within the iconic heritage building at 70 Elizabeth Street.

The grand new boutique is a testament to Loake’s relationship to timeless British style–a place where customers can escape the hustle and bustle of a high-powered life in the city and relax, if even just for the length of their lunch break.
Designed to be worn for longevity, Loake’s bread and butter will no doubt be its vast range of Goodyear Welted dress shoes and boots, with each style taking up to eight weeks to manufacture with over 200 separate procedures being cut and stitched to a level of finishing. This is made possible by the collective generational experience of craftsmen, built up over almost a century and a half of continuous production. Standouts include everyday oxfords, intricate brogues and pristine patent dress shoes.

What sets Loake apart from other homegrown shoemakers, however, is the brand’s flexibility in adapting to trends. While its range of classic dress shoes remains timeless, Loake has also built a strong offering designed to cater to modern workers for whom smart casual has become the norm in business. Since the turn of the millennium, the company has blended tradition with innovation to expand its range in all manner of forward thinking ways, developing hardy, thoroughly British boots in collaboration with outerwear giants, and a range of sneakers that are as at home in the bar as they are in the boardroom. In news that might send shivers through a certain Australian bootmaker, the brand has also delivered Down Under a waterproof all-weather leather chelsea boot. To tick all the boxes, they also carry leather goods and accessories.
Loake’s Sydney flagship store is open now at 70 Elizabeth St, Sydney 2000. The brand’s full range can be browsed at loakeshoes.com.au
