Cuckoo for Coco
Exquisite musical clock sings loudest in Chanel’s latest novelties series.
Haute couture meets haute horlogerie in Chanel’s new Couture O’Clock collection. Introduced at Watches & Wonders in April, the company’s novelties for the year reference dressmaking tools in a nod to Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel’s legendary Rue Cambon atelier.
The fashion-inflected line-up includes a pincushion ring watch and a cuff bracelet shaped like a spool of thread. Still, the most stunning timekeeper is undoubtedly the Couture O’Clock Musical Clock, a statement desk piece containing a music box and automaton.

A three-dimensional display under a glass dome, the one-of-a-kind timepiece centres on a carousel of dressmaker mannequins that dance around the base while “My Woman” (an Al Bowlly tune favoured by Chanel) plays. Befitting the label’s sumptuous garments, the black, white and gold clock is lavishly embellished, with diamonds set on the chandelier, brooches and 245 pieces of onyx inlaid on the base. Like the couture creations that inspired them, these pieces are limited to very small quantities. Coco would have approved.
