What are the most wanted sunglasses in 2023?
Classic aviators, wayfarers and other retro-cool shapes still dominate the eye scene, but new colours beyond the noirs and browns, tinted and polarised shades and oversized designs are also having a moment in the fashion sun.
Mirrored and coloured lenses provide a fashionable option and feature heavily in this season’s collections. Purists will sniff, but if you’re ever going to take a style risk eyewear is a good place to start.
Which sunglasses give the best eye protection?
New-gen styles typically offer a host of choices when it comes to lens strength, polarisation (glare protection) and colours.
If you find yourself still squinting, polarised lenses are designed to minimise glare from the sun and reflective surfaces, including water, snow and glass, protecting your eyes from harmful UV rays. Colours should appear as rich as they do in real life whilst effectively reducing your urge to squint. Simply put, you’ll see better and you’ll feel better.
While polarised lenses are designed for comfort, sunglasses that prioritise UV protection have been designed to keep the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UVA and UVB) rays from reaching your eyes, these sunglasses can aid in keeping all manner of eye-related illnesses — from abnormal eye growths to macular degeneration and even cancer of the eye — at a distance.
What are the best polarised sunglasses for the money?
If you find yourself still screwing your eyes up behind your shades, consider getting polarised lenses that are designed to block glare and help with contrast, as do some tinted versions. Skiiers rave about the polarisation features of classic sports brands like Oakley and Maui Jim, but for our money, it’s hard to go past the Randolph ‘Hamilton’ matte chrome versions with polarised mirrored lenses, as worn by Aussie star in the making Jacob Elordi. At $530, they make a great stylish option.
