Best Super SUV: Aston Martin DBX 707
A commanding all-rounder that blends speed, control and luxury, setting a high bar for what a modern performance SUV can be.
The DBX 707 is a car that will make drivers recoil in confusion. Not for malignant reasons. Rather, it is the kind of machine that causes owners to furiously meditate on exactly why Aston Martin is not universally regarded as the GOAT carmaker, while other lesser brands, run by folk who snort ketamine for breakfast and throw dubious hand salutes in public, hog the sales and limelight.
Alas, we may inhabit an increasingly surreal, topsy-turvy chunk of space rock, but even so, by rights this super-SUV—hands down the best in a white-hot class right now—should be a sell-out blockbuster. And hopes for a scintilla of sanity are high: since 2024, the 707 variant has been the only DBX in town (the base-level spec was canned), having accounted for 60 percent of the model’s sales.
Whatever drivers request from this Aston, it repays them. Would sir like ferocious speed? A pure, petrol-only 4.0-litre AMG V8 is there to oblige. Care for a spot of off-roading? An advanced active roll-control system will accommodate. Aspire to lashings of luxury? Step this way for a private fitting.
Yes, buyers indeed have the option to customise the interior through the marque’s Q by Aston Martin programme, but even in “regular” trim, the marque’s luxurious heredity abounds; swathes of Bridge of Weir leather lend the cabin an earthy richness; bespoke, knurled switchgear encourages tactile engagement. The 707 feels like it’s been hand-built by artisans, not automatons.
Incredibly, this isn’t even the greatest Aston of the last 12 months. Stay tuned for more.
