Unveiling The Centennial Release Of Hibiki 21 Years: A Unique Blend Of Past, Present And Future
The pioneering house of Japanese whisky reveals three new limited-edition bottlings within its six-part celebratory centennial range.
The House of Suntory, the renowned Japanese whisky distillery, is commemorating its centennial year with the much-anticipated release of Hibiki 21-Year-Old and a special limited-edition bottle design of Hibiki Japanese Harmony. These two offerings pay homage to the past, present, and future while celebrating the four seasons. They join the lineup of centennial whiskies from the House of Suntory, which marks 100 years since the establishment of Japan’s first malt whisky distillery.
Known for its unrivaled quality, Hibiki is a blend of malt and grain whiskies from Suntory’s distinguished distilleries. The limited-edition Hibiki 21-Year-Old showcases a meticulous blend that harmoniously combines flavours and aromas, with rare Mizunara oak playing a prominent role.
Master Blender Shinji Fukuyo explains, “Crafting the limited-edition Hibiki 21-Year-Old was a challenge we gladly embraced to celebrate our centennial. With great precision, we harnessed the unique characteristics of Japanese Mizunara oak, enhancing the distinctive flavours of our Hibiki whiskies. This special release embodies our unwavering dedication to craftsmanship at the House of Suntory.”
The Hibiki 21-Year-Old features an exquisite centennial label design, evoking the beauty of a Japanese sunrise and symbolizing the passage of time. Its tender gold color captures the essence of “Wa” or oneness, offering enticing aromas of kumquat, jasmine, and Japanese incense. The palate delights with subtle sweetness, floral notes, and spiced wood, leading to a remarkable finish with hints of Mizunara wood. This extraordinary whisky is available globally for a suggested retail price of $8,350 RRP (700ml).
In addition, the House of Suntory presents the centennial edition of Hibiki Japanese Harmony, showcasing the artistry of “Monozukuri” craftsmanship. The bottle design represents Japan’s changing seasons, with motifs of snow, moon, and flowers. The ‘Kakehashi’ (bridge) symbolizes the connection between Japan and the world, uniting the past, present, and future. This luminous whisky, amber in color, offers notes of rose, lychee, and mature woodiness, with a subtle finish accented by Mizunara. Hibiki Japanese Harmony is available globally for a suggested retail price of $460 RRP (700ml).
To further commemorate the 100th Anniversary, the House of Suntory presents the TOKI Suntory Whisky limited edition gift carton. Created by artist Tansestu Ogino, the design encompasses the concept of “Time” in Japanese and reinvented traditions. The TOKI Limited edition gift carton is priced at $79AUD (700ml).
The House of Suntory’s commitment to excellence is also showcased in the centennial edition Yamazaki 18 Year Old Mizunara and Hakushu 18 Year Old Peated Malt whiskies.
