Most of us already have a symbiotic relationship with technology. Now Italian appliance brand Smeg is inviting us to become one with our home appliances via its new SmartConnect App.
Smeg devotees can now control their appliances from a handy Web-based application downloaded on a smartphone or tablet.
The app allows you to send commands from anywhere to your Smeg oven, or wine cooler, at any time of day, making technology an extension of our lives.
The app can be applied to the award-winning Dolce Stil Novo collection, which was conceived in collaboration with Guido Canali, and comprises ovens, wine cellars, hybrid cooktops, and even the world’s first domestic blast chiller.
Need to fire up the oven to 180 degrees while you are driving home from work? Now you can. Forget to chill the Champagne before leaving the restaurant? Do it from the car and no one will be any the wiser.
Extra features include push notifications for cooking milestones and the ability to share recipes with friends and add items to shopping lists.
It’s a time-and face-saving level of control that will become a requisite feature of all home appliances. But for now, it’s a neat innovation that tracks with Smeg’s knack for making ingenious products that we love and covet.
