The price of rock star irreverence? $18,920, according to Saint Laurent and Fender. The French luxury fashion house and American luthier have come together to created a co-branded capsule collection. At its heart, a limited-edition Fender x Saint Laurent Stratocaster and a ’65 Deluxe Reverb amplifier. Only ten of the former have been made, making getting your pick on one, well…slim pickings.
Created in collaboration with Rive Droit, the cross-cultural lifestyle destination conceived by Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello, the collaboration unites Fender’s iconic craftsmanship with the French fashion house’s seductive insouciance. The Saint Laurent x Fender collection is largely dominated by shades of black, which grace the entirety of the Stratocaster guitar.
Rendered in glossy black urethane, it combines an alder body with a maple 1960s Oval C-shaped neck and a flat-laminated ebony fingerboard. The blacked-out treatment allows the sterling silver dot inlays and silver Saint Laurent logo by the tremolo to pop. Alongside the logo sit three lipstick-style pick-up covers, retaining the signature Fender aesthetic while showcasing Saint Laurent’s minimalist appeal.
The amplifier, a Fender classic, takes on a mid-1960s style. Retaining the same specs as the standard ’65 Deluxe Reverb, it’s adorned with the Saint Laurent logo and YSL hardware.
Rounding out the collaboration is a set of six guitar picks—two each of black, white, and checked. The celluloid picks are created in the classic Fender 351 shape and are priced at $45 for the set.
