Spearing through Victoria’s Yarra Valley in a Porsche Taycan Turbo S is an experience, and very much the future of luxurious driving (once, that is, the Australian government implements the necessary infrastructure).
While we easily could, we’re not here to bang on about the Porsche (nor raise an eyebrow upon seeing the word “turbo” associated with an electric car). No, we’re here to explore the German marque’s alignment to TAG Heuer’s latest release, the Connected Calibre E4 Porsche Edition.
Brand collaborations are often obtuse—like magnets attempting to come together to feed off each other. That is not the case here. This is a seamless partnership of two brands that share an entwined history (read: debut 1963 Carrera) and one that continues to align two innovative brands eager to craft an exciting future.
“This watch evokes many of the passions we share; high performance, technological innovation and our love for unique and unmatched products,” offers Frédéric Arnault, TAG Heuer CEO. “For both TAG Heuer and Porche, the thrill of driving is part of our heritage, and this watch celebrates the fearless spirit of both maisons, as well as highlighting the sustainable innovation of the Taycan.”
The TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Porsche Edition proves itself to be a delight of design, functionality and alluring new tech. Appearing as a (digital) chronograph, the robust 45 mm effort is TAG Heuer’s finest since it first started tinkering with so-called smartwatches back in 2015.
The bold icy blue hues are inspired by the aforementioned Taycan, framing a piece that can easily navigate numerous environments (gym, boardroom, bar). The actual face takes its cues from printed circuit boards and racing circuits—a nod to Porsche’s racing legacy—and the black steel crown surrounded with black rubber is highlighted with the TAG Heuer shield in frozen blue lacquer. The carbon-like black calfskin watch strap dotted with blue stitching is not only comfortable, it also pays homage to various Porsche interiors.
Running a customised version of Google’s Wear OS system means a range of exclusive timers, as well as sport and wellness apps for guided workouts, cycling, swimming and golf. There’s also an accelerometer, heart rate monitor, compass, GPS and altimeter. Yes, it even takes calls.
But there’s more here, this being a collaboration with Porsche. For those fortunate enough to own certain Porsches, the piece offers the ability to deliver information relating to the car, such as fuel and battery levels, mileage, and the chance to also connect to the My Porsche app to control heating and air conditioning.
Of the aligned models, know that you’ll need a Panamera (G2 models from 2022 onwards), Panamera (G2), 911 (922 models from 2022 onwards), 911, Cayenne (E3 models from 2022 onwards), Cayenne E2 II, 718, or a Macan II or III. Or, of course, a Taycan.
