With travel back in full swing, it’s only right to have a timepiece fit for the trip.
At the time of its launch, the Hora Mundi from Breguet, became an instant hit for its instant-change dual-display and ease of use — something that took three years to develop.
Today, Breguet unveils a new version of its dual time watch, the 5557-Marine Hora Mundi, which offers a new interpretation of the technical masterpiece within the framework of the manufacture’s marine collection.
The technical feat, accomplished via the pusher and crown which, after selecting the first city’s time and date, the owner need only set the second city and press the pusher to display the new time zone all without disturbing the running of the watch.
It’s all very impressive, powered by an in house-built Calibre 77F1 that offers not only the dual time-zone mechanism and display but offers a 55-hour power reserve and is elegantly adorned with Cotes de Geneve, guilloche and snailed finishing admired through the sapphire caseback.
The dial — found in a 43.9mm-diameter case available in a choice of white or rose gold — is a work of art. The first gold base features hand guilloche waves set against the continents while a sunburst blue dial furthers the impression of waves. Further, the continents see an additional plate of sapphire while the continents themselves are treated to horizontal satin brushing and their coastlines outlined with a metallic turquoise border.
Beyond the allure of the artistic work of the dial, the details for Breguet remain of utmost importance. Here, the hour markers are adorned with luminescent material while the sun and moon positioned at 4 o’clock is hand-hammered. The sun is made of a rose gold while the moon is rhodium plated.
Elsewhere, the 12 o’clock aperture features the date while the cities corresponding to the different time zones are indicated at the 6 o’clock with a metallised anchor appearing above the window to determine the place of the current time you wish to discover.
The timepiece is available in three different straps, the leather and rubber options are priced at $105,900 while the variant on the gold bracelet is priced at $138,800. Buckle up.
