Dive watches have come a long way from exploring the abyss to a must-have for any discerning collector.
In keeping with a need for deep-diving functionality comes a new timepiece from Blancpain, the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Titanium.
Since its inception in 1956, the Bathyscaphe has been a mainstay of Blancpain’s diver’s watch collection, and here, the model gets a sleek upgrade with the addition of titanium.
Titanium is a reliable ally of diver’s watches with its resistance to shock, pressure, and corrosion all valuable to its function alongside how comfortably lightweight the watch is to wear.
The 43mm titanium timepiece is water-resistant to 300-metres and is satin-finished – something that is rarely achieved on grade 23 titanium.
Within the case sits an anthracite-coloured dial that features a hand-crafted vertical satin finish and a modern matte effect that enhances the luminescent baton-type hands and geometric hour-markers.
Elsewhere the timepiece features a unidirectional satin-brushed titanium bezel with a ceramic insert.
The watch utilises the manufacture’s calibre 1315. The self-winding movement is a benchmark in the field of sports watches and is designed for accuracy and performance with a five-day power reserve and a silicon balance spring making it impervious to magnetic fields.
Peering through the sapphire caseback, one can appreciate the movement and its high level of finishing with its snailed and chamfered bridges and sandblasted satin-finished and snailed gold oscillating weight.
The new reference comes fitted with a NATO or anthracite sailcloth strap, or a grade 23 satin-finished titanium bracelet – the latter of which is identical to those on Fifty Fathoms models and a first for a Bathyscaphe timepiece.
The sail canvas and NATO strapped references are priced at $16,000 while the bracelet version is $19,500. Blancpain.com
