
This Eco-lodge Takes Gorilla Trekking to New Heights

Singita officially opened Singita Kwitonda Lodge and Kataza House in Rwanda last week, an exciting new property set on 72 hectares on the cusp of Volcanoes National Park. Kwitonda Lodge boasts eight luxurious suites while Kataza House, an exclusive use villa, features four spacious suites.
Singita, has operated ecotourism lodges and camps in Africa for the past 26 years. Expansion into Rwanda is part of their 100-year preservation effort of African wilderness for future generations, committing to reforestation initiatives in Rwanda and helping increase the number of endangered mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park.
For guests, gorilla trekking is a major drawcard, and Singita is conveniently less than ten minutes from Volcanoes National Park headquarters. Singita Kwitonda Lodge is made up of a number of small buildings laid out along the natural contours of the ground. The design and construction of the lodge and villa has resulted in one of the most sustainable lodges in Africa. The design team worked closely with the local community to source building materials from the immediate Musanze district and interior designers Cécile & Boyd and Hesse Kleinloog Studio sources a majority of elements from Africa.
Taking cues from Rwanda’s cultural heritage, Singita Kwitonda integrates bold striking interiors with natural elements like earth mist, rain and lava through its vivid colour palette of black, khaki green, ‘greige’ and fiery orange which echo the surrounding landscape.
