Ten hotel suites where love is in the air

Love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day does offer off an excellent excuse for something a bit more indulgent than usual.

Love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day does offer off an excellent excuse to treat yourself and your paramour to something a bit more indulgent than usual. This year, leave the chocolates and perfume at home, and instead check into an opulent suite in one of the most romantic cities in the world. Perched high above Paris, New York, London, Rome, and Los Angeles, the following 10 suites are the ultimate places to hole up in with your Valentine this February — and with amenities like terraces built for private alfresco dining and steamy showers with plenty of room for two, no one will blame you if you never actually make it out of the hotel.

## Hôtel de Crillon

Fresh off of four years of painstaking renovations, Hôtel de Crillon, now a Rosewood property, is a beacon in the City of Light. This Valentine’s Day, settle into one of the two Karl Lagerfeld–designed Grands Appartements with your better half. The palatial one-bedroom suites feature a fittingly stylish mix of contemporary furniture and grand 18th-century antiques, but the immaculate décor has a hard time competing with views of Paris offered up by sweeping windows. But, if popping bottles of champagne while watching the sun set over the Eiffel Tower and Grand Palais from in your suite isn’t enough, the hotel also offers a special Valentine’s Day floral arranging workshop with renowned florist Djorde Varda, couple’s spa treatments, and a tasting menu highlighting Parisian delicacies at the chic L’Ecrin.

## Le Meurice

If you prefer a taste of old-school Parisian glamour, surprise your Valentine with a stay in Le Meurice’s sweeping Belle Etoile suite. Though the Dorchester Collection property’s one-bedroom suite boasts sprawling living spaces, a deep marble soaking tub with plenty of room for two, and plush bedrooms, the pied-à-terre’s sprawling rooftop terrace is the ultimate indulgence. As large as the interiors of the suite itself, the terrace boasts 360-degree views of Pairs, and enjoying a private dinner alfresco above the glistening city is an ultra-romantic alternative to braving restaurants crowded with love birds.

## Beverly Wilshire, a Four Seasons Hotel

For a playful twist on the classic romantic night away, check into the Veranda Suite at the Beverly Wilshire, a Four Seasons Hotel. In early fall, the storied one-bedroom suite’s rooftop terrace was transformed into an urban glamping oasis, the first of its kind for the luxury hospitality brand. The space is now home to a luxe canvas tent — complete with a cosy queen-sized bed, chandelier, and incredible views of Los Angeles and the Hollywood Hills — letting guests sleep under the Los Angeles stars if they so choose. Couples who book the suite for Valentine’s Day will enjoy an eight-course tasting menu on the veranda along with another twist on a camping classic — campfire s’mores dusted in 24-karat edible gold leaf.

## Peninsula Beverly Hills

Long a favorite of both jet-set visitors to Los Angeles and Hollywood stars looking to lay low for an evening, the Peninsula Beverly Hills is the perfect place to hunker down with your Valentine this year. The 210-square-metres Royal Patio Suite is easy enough to transform into a love nest, especially if you book the Romantic Moment’s package, which comes complete with monogramed Frette pillowcases and plush personalised robes. Keep the indulgence rolling with in-room massages before heading up to the property’s rooftop pool for a dinner in a private rooftop cabana, where you can toast to love with a bottle of Nicolas Feuillatte Brut Champagne.

## Hotel de Russie

A perineal favourite in the Eternal City, Hotel de Russie, a Rocco Forte Hotel is a haven for lovers this Valentine’s Day. Though all of the property’s rooms and suites are ideal for a romantic getaway, give your beau the ultimate treat by checking in to the stylish Nijnsky Suite. Perched on the top floor, the suite comes complete with a library, dining room, mosaic-tiled bathroom equipped with a steam tub, and terrace featuring sweeping views of both the property’s private gardens (which is a hotspot beloved by locals and visitors alike) and the nearby Villa Borghese. If you do manage to make it out of your room, a complementary limousine service will whisk you away for a romantic dinner at Roman institutions like L’Archangelo.

## Hotel Eden

As the crown jewel of Dorchester Collection’s recently-renovated Hotel Eden, spending a few nights in the Bellavista Penthouse Suite is an easy way to shower your Valentine with love this year. A private elevator will whisk you up to the nearly 205-square-metres sixth floor suite, where plush bed linens, a palatial bathroom (with a shower and bath fit for two), and stunning views of Rome await. To up the romance factor, guests can head downstairs to the La Libreria bar for a romantically-scented aperitif created in partnership with the expert noses at the Roman research perfumery Campomarzio70 before settling into the Michelin-starred La Terrazza for an aphrodisiac packed six-course Valentine menu.

## The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park

For a truly over-the-top way to celebrate romance, head to the Royal Suite at the Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park. The opulent, 183-square-metre suite has long been a favorite of those looking to indulge, and, thanks to its perch on the 22nd floor, it offers up some of the best views of Central Park in anywhere in the city. For Valentine’s Day, book the property’s Romance by the Park package to treat your paramour to a 90-minute in-suite couples massage by La Prairie, a personal shopping experience at the exclusive Saks Fifth Avenue Club, and a chauffeured Mercedes-Maybach to whisk you off to whatever candle-lit restaurant you plan to toast to your love in.

## Mandarin Oriental New York

With its palette of warm greys, velvet, and leather and steam shower built for two, the Presidential Suite is by far the sexiest accommodation at the luxe Mandarin Oriental New York. Keep the romantic mood going by booking an indulgent four-hour couple’s treatment in the Spa Suite — which comes complete with a fireplace, private steam shower, freestanding bath, side-by-side spa tables, and of course, stunning views of central park and Manhattan. If you can tear yourself away from the suite and the spa, head down for a celebratory (and rule-breaking) cocktail at the buzzy Aviary NYC or settle into a booth at the speakeasy-style Office NYC for something a bit more intimate.

## Corinthia Hotel London

Treat your Valentine like a queen (or king) by checking in to the palatial Royal Penthouse Lounge at the Corinthia Hotel London. The two-story, 465-square-metre suite constantly tops lists of the best suites in Europe thanks to its grand black marble staircase, plush lounge spaces, spa-like bathroom and sprawling rooftop terrace that boasts 180-degree views of the city. For Valentine’s day, the property will decorate already sexy suite with romantic touches like bottles of chilled champagne, sweet treats from the hotel’s pastry chef, and velvety red rose petals sprinkled throughout the bedroom.

## The Connaught

Though all of the elegant rooms at the Connaught will be sure to impress your beau this Valentine’s Day, the Apartment suite, with its hand-carved doors, spacious living areas, and unbeatable views of London is by far the most romantic. Kick of your love-filled stay by wrapping yourselves in monogrammed bathrobes and settling into the four-poster bed with a complementary bottle of Champagne and dark chocolate covered strawberries. If you somehow manage to tear yourselves away from the marble-, velvet-, and silk-clad suite, there are Burberry trench coats on hand to keep you dry in the English rain and your 24-hour butler can arrange for a chauffeur to whisk you wherever your heart desires.
