Maison Ruinart offers a London night away with a big difference

It is a once in a lifetime experience.

By Nick Scott 03/06/2018

A one-night-only hotel, with only one bedroom, open for only ten nights: it’s fair to say that this initiative from Maison Ruinart – a champagne house founded in 1729 in Reims, the unofficial capital of the Champagne region – comes out of left field, to put it mildly.

But Hotel 1729, a collaboration with London-based designer Tom Hingston, which, from June 30 to July 10, will be based in Primrose Hill to the North of Regent’s Park, will offer much more than a place to lay one’s head for the night.

Ruinart’s Maître d’Hospitalité, Olivier Livoir, will guide guests through tastings of the house’s various offerings while recounting rich narratives behind their history, including the first crayères and rosé champagne, as well as Ruinart’s singular dedication to the chardonnay grape.

Experimental Danish chef, Bo Lindegaard, meanwhile will pair the wines with imaginative culinary creations, with all bacchanalian proceedings taking place in environs created by Hingston, who has worked as creative director for brands including Christian Dior, Rolls-Royce and Lancôme, as well as collaborating with musicians including The Rolling Stones, David Bowie and Massive Attack.

An overnight stay for two including Ruinart Champagne and dining experience and breakfast costs £850/AU$1,499, or £1,250/AU$2,204 if you wish to invite four additional evening guests. To book visit clos19.com
