Get Yourself Seriously Sideways In A BMW ‘M’ Badge
High performance cars and demanding conditions – time to test yourself with the ultimate winter driving challenge.
Queenstown is all about skiing and some of the world’s best Pinot Noir. Wrong.
For something fresh, head to the famed Kiwi slopes for a driving experience with a difference.
From June 27 to July 5 BMW offers its Alpine Experience at the iconic Southern Hemisphere Proving Ground on Mount Pisa.
More than 40 hectares of snowy terrain (that sits at 1500 metres above sea level) will inform the unique playground – drivers able to engage hot laps, ice-drifting, figure eights and snow-snow-covered road course layouts in a fleet of grunty BMW M and X vehicles.
“It’s not every day that people have the freedom to bury the accelerator of a high-performance BMW on a snow track used to test cars around the world,” says senior BMW instructor and qualified race driver Mike Eady, who will be managing the driving. “Each year, we see more and more people looking for a new winter experience, and the BMW Alpine Experience is just that.”
The German marque will chopper all guests to the site from Queenstown, a chance to take in breathtaking views of Central Otago’s glaciers, waterfalls, ski resorts and vineyards.
After a day of driving, dinner is followed by a necessary lie down at Arrowtown’s luxury Millbrook Resort.
The BMW Alpine Experience is now open from $3000 per person (including full driving experience, two nights luxury accommodation, food and drink, local transfers and a helicopter ride.)
