The 850 Toro from Ferretti Yachts Hits a Bullseye

The smooth sailing Toro is 26 metres of pure italian indulgence.

With a presence and profile that stole the spotlight at last year’s Sydney International Boat Show, the Ferretti Yachts 850 Toro is 26 metres of pure Italian indulgence. For its savvy Sydney owner, the new Ferretti 850 is a step up in volume and socialising space from his previous 21-metre motor yacht.

The main appeal of this consummately Italian craft was its multiple zones for relaxation and entertaining, and since arriving on the harbour scene, Toro has been put to good use for corporate entertaining and as a family cruiser.

The 850 is the product of collaboration between Ferretti’s product and engineering departments and design studio Zuccon International Project. With a construction length below 24 metres, the flybridge model can be registered as a pleasure craft, easing some of the constraints of supersized superyacht ownership.

Svelte and sophisticated, the 850 has a discrete raised pilothouse, with flybridge on top for additional leisure space. Styling-wise, the 850 is characterised by her chiselled hull, with two trapezoidal hull windows and integrated portholes illuminating the interior and providing magnificent views for guests within.

Toro’s owner opted for customised paintwork on the superstructure, comprising grey and metallic accents, $150,000 panoramic hardtop, brushed stainless steel and aluminium panelling.
There are the distinct areas for dining and reclining: the large cockpit, flybridge and lounge area on the foredeck, beneath the owner-specified carbon-fibre shades. The huge flybridge has custom grey-caulked teak flooring, teppanyaki grill, full bar and LED-illuminated dining table for 10 people.

Another feature unique to the 850 is the fold-down transom door that can be lowered into the water, along with the swim platform, providing a large submersible area. This allows access to the garage, which accommodates the Williams Jet 485 tender, along with a plethora of water toys such as Seabobs, stand-up paddleboards and a Technohull chase boat tender.
Inside, the layout is open-plan and airy, with almost full-height glazing, gauze curtains, lustrous finishes and freestanding furniture to create an ultra-contemporary ‘mobile home’. The saloon of the 850 is one of the largest produced by Ferretti in this class – an opulent grand entrance complete with ‘lobby bar’.

Below decks, there are four large staterooms with the softest of carpets, each with ensuite, boasting Italian soft furnishings and carpet in a bespoke interiors package by Minotti Design and local specialists Analu. In the bow are the similarly luxurious crew quarters, consisting of two cabins with bunk beds and private bathroom, with room for the captain and three crew members.

Zero-speed stabiliser fins ensure complete calm at anchor and a smooth ride, even at the 33-knot top speed provided by twin upgraded 1900hp MAN engines. Toro’s besotted owner travelled to the Mediterranean to take delivery, savouring the Italian and French Rivieras for a month before dispatching his ‘beast’ to Australia.
