IWC’s Stealthy Top Guns
The Swiss manufacture adds a further tactical tinge to its Top Gun collection.

To be worthy of IWC Schaffhausen’s ‘Top Gun’ moniker, a timepiece must be on the bleeding edge of the Swiss manufacture’s horological offering.
The watchmaker’s latest duo does just that, taking advanced performance materials — such as ceramic, titanium and Ceratanium — and utilising it to pioneer two new novelties in a striking matte black colour with scratch-resistant qualities.
Firstly, the Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Top Gun Cerantium features a 46.2mm case, crown and, for the first time, a bracelet made of Cerantium.
For the uninitiated, Cerantium is a combination of the lightness and structural integrity of titanium with a hardness and scratch-resistance similar to ceramic and makes for a bracelet 30 per cent lighter than steel (and more comfortable).
IWC has fashioned the timepiece for a ‘tactical’ look boasting a black dial with grey numerals to elevate the design.
As handsome as it may be, the watch is not all good looks, powered by IWC’s in-house manufactured 52615 calibre visible through the tinted sapphire glass case back.
The watch is fitted with a Pellaton winding system and boasts components made of wear-free ceramic offering a power reserve of seven days across two barrels. Further, Its mechanical program automatically recognises different month lengths and leap years and will require no correction until 2100.
Also fitted here is another IWC speciality — the specific moon phase display — which depicts the moon as it is seen from the northern and southern hemispheres. It is so precise that it will only deviate by one day after 577.5 years.
Joining the Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Top Gun Ceratanium is the Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Top Gun Ceratanium.
The first Top Gun model to be set with a Timezoner complication, the watch can be set to a different time zone by simply pressing down and rotating the bezel. The hour hand, the 24-hour display and the date will move forwards or backwards in one-hour steps. The feature also works across the dateline without losing a single second.
Like its sibling, the 46mm case is made of Ceratanium, while the city ring is made from ceramic and is inscribed with the names of 24 cities, each of which represents one international time zone.
The numerals are printed in grey on the black dial while the numbers 12, 3, 6 and 9 are coated with luminescent material for increased legibility.
The all-black design is further complemented by a tinted sapphire glass case back displaying the IWC manufactured 82760 calibre with Pellaton winding system boasting a power reserve of 60 hours and makes use of a black rubber strap with textile inlay for a comfortable wear.
The Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Top Gun Ceratanium ($66,800) is limited 150 pieces while the Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Top Gun Ceratanium ($26,000) is limited to 500 pieces.
