Fashion’s latest fixation is the ‘70s – from corduroy’s return to the enduring appeal of louche tailoring, it’s a muse that’s filtering through to the watch world.
Its within this framework Blancpain reveals its latest – the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Day Date Desert, a retro refresh of an iconic dive watch.
In what could be considered a follow up to its Bathyscaphe Jour Date 70s, unveiled two years back, the latest is a limited edition of 500 units that arrives in a sandy-beige coloured dial, matching sail canvas strap and brown ceramic unidirectional bezel.
The dial is finished in a sunbrushed style with an element of smokiness that acknowledges fumé dials that recently re-emerged through the likes of H. Moser & Cie. Adding further retro appeal, the hands are boxy, as too the luminous markers.
Inside the 43mm case a Blancpain calibre 13155DD powers the timepiece, offering 120 hours of power-reserve alongside an impressive 300-metre of water resistance.
Priced at $17,600.
