Already well respected for a firm commitment to the ocean and environment, historic Swiss atelier, Blancpain, furthers its ‘green’ credentials with a stunning new Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Chronograph Flyback.
Following interpretations in black, meteor grey and blue, the latest offers an alluring and striking green — immediately elevating any outing with a striking appeal that plays to the modernity and minimalism associated with Bathyscaphe.
At 43.6mm and 15.25mm thick, the case proves a slight expansion on the usual 43mm diameter and 13.8mm, though it also lands with an immediate presence built around the vibrant dial colour and satin-brushed black ceramic case topped by a rotating bezel featuring green ceramic insert.
In production, the dial engages two stages of polishing: first, to remove any scratches and, second, to ensure it has a smooth appearance. Next, Blancpain’s dial specialists focus their efforts on creating the texture visible on the finished product, including the distinctive ‘sunray’ effect.
The final colouring process involves several coatings, all designed to produce a shimmery green dial that changes hue based on the angle of illumination.
“As part of our annual publication ‘Edition Fifty Fathoms’, we have been collaborating with the world’s best underwater photographers to share the wonders of the ocean’s world,” offers Marc A. Hayek, Blancpain President and CEO.
“And their pictures, showing the variety of environments that can be explored with diving, inspired the green colour of the Bathyscaphe Flyback Chronograph.”
Beneath the surface, the piece boasts the in-house F385 calibre, visible through a sapphire crystal caseback. The model’s self-winding high-frequency chronograph movement features a vertical clutch and column wheel, is water-resistant to 300-metres and comes on either a NATO or ‘sail’ canvas strap.
Elsewhere, the outed flyback function enables one to reset the watch to zero and restart it instantaneously by pressing the pusher at 4 o’clock.
It’s time, then, to go green.
