TAG Heuer rounds off what’s been a whimsical year of watch releases with the all-new TAG Heuer Carrera Gold Chronograph – a stunning reinterpretation of a black and yellow gold chrono that takes inspiration from the brand’s storied connection to motorsport.
First designed in 1963 by Jack Heuer, the Carrera Chronograph – forever known as the “chronograph of choice” for some of the world’s greatest Formula One teams and drivers – is arguably TAG Heuer’s most iconic design as well as one of the most revered timepieces in history.
The new TAG Heuer Carrera Gold Chronograph revels in the practicality of its design – the highly legible, uncluttered dial, sleek lines, and high-performing movements were a necessity for its creator, Jack Heuer. But catering towards the interests of today’s watch consumer, the 2022 gold edition offers a modern design with a never-seen-before dial design; black with golden gilded subdials, an inverted version of the famed Heuer reference 1158 CHN.
The newcomer presents in a classic 42mm case in solid 18K 3N yellow gold, with gold pushers and crown. The contrasting black sunray brushed dial with gilded gold chronograph subdials, hands and indexes are eye-catching, presenting a sophistication, elegance and depth that makes it evidently appropriate for both business and leisure pursuits. Of course, a date window sits discreetly at 6 o’clock, allowing for full appreciation of the intricate dial design.
Turn over to discover a sapphire crystal caseback through which the movement and custom black oscillating mass are clearly visible. Of course, a watch of this stature requires a movement of prominence, and the Calibre Heuer 02 – the brand’s impressive in-house chronograph movement – is just that, with an impressive 80 hours of power reserve.
To finish off the piece, the TAG Heuer Carrera Gold Chronograph comes presented on a large-scale black alligator strap with a gold pin buckle.
