Rolex’s 2020 Roll Out

That means eight new Subs to choose from, among others.

Rolex has today unveiled its 2020 offerings – delivering a number of new, reworked and colourful additions across its iconic Submariner, Datejust, Oyster Perpetual and Sky-Dweller models.

The Submariner is the obvious hero here – the so-called ‘Sub’ a revered and collectable model that continues to inspire and enthral in its various guises; a design icon that for 70 odd years has cast a long and influential shadow over so many other pieces.

Oyster Perpetual Submariner

In this latest iteration, Rolex has not only increased the size to 41mm, but delivered a new automotive movement, Calibre 3230, said to be more technical, precise and robust. The timepiece is available with a black dial and matching bezel insert with the streamlined and classic dateless design priced from $11,400.

The Submariner Date – the first time the recent Calibre 3235 has been used to power a ‘Sub’ – sees a number of options, in addition to sharing the black colour configuration with its dateless sibling including a black dial with green ceramic bezel, hello Kermit. A second yellow ‘Rolesor’ version (a combination of steel and 18ct yellow gold) is available in a blue dial with blue bezel insert, alongside another 18ct white and yellow-gold version with a black dial and blue bezel insert. The Submariner Date starts at $13,450.

Elsewhere, the new Sky-Dweller has been fitted with an oysterflex bracelet for the first time – making it the first in the brand’s ‘classic’ category to receive such.  Pictured here with an 18ct yellow gold dial, it’s also available in an everose gold as well as in a black, champagne, white and chocolate dial colour with a sunray finished dial. The watch is clasped to the wrist via the elastomer bracelet with an oysterclasp and Rolex glidelock extension system.

Oyster Perpetual Sky-Dweller

Starting at $56,450, the Sky-Dweller is equipped with the calibre 9001 movement – one of the more complex to come out of the Genevan manufacturer – which includes a parachrom hairspring and offers a power reserve of approximately 72 hours.

Adding further colour to Rolex’s range of newcomers is the Oyster Perpetual. The 2020 edition of the 36mm offering sees a raft of dial colours including candy pink, green, yellow, turquoise fitted – with a coral red dial fixed to a 31mm edition of the classic timepiece.

Oyster Perpetual 41

The 41mm Oyster Perpetual shares the same calibre 3230 as its 36mm sibling and arrives with a silver sunray-finish dial, or bright black. Hour markers are 18ct yellow gold – a nod to retro Rolex elements of the past. It comes in at $8300.

Finally, the Datejust 31mm, from $10,950, has been remodelled with the new watches utilising Rolesor in a combination of steel and 18ct white gold.  Four watches make up the new collection, all of which feature Roman numerals and fluted bezels and are finished with aubergine, mint green, white lacquer or dark grey dials. The calibre 2236 boasts a power reserve of approximately 55 hours.
