To commemorate the 70th anniversary of Grange – Penfolds has unveiled a limited-edition record player console.
Only seven individually crafted pieces have been produced globally, paying homage to an ‘all in one’ console design from the 1950s – the same decade Grange was first created by Max Schubert.
The commemorative console has been handcrafted by SYMBOL Audio – created by a single craftsman using time-honoured techniques totalling 100 hours work.
Although the design pays tribute to Penfolds’ past, the console is state of the art featuring an audiophile-grade Bluetooth receiver for streaming, belt-driven turntable, 6.5-inch full range speakers and a 300-watt 8-inch subwoofer with equaliser controls concealed in the lower cabinet.
Filling the cabinet is a ‘White Capsule’ release Grange magnum duo from the 2010 and 2017 vintage within the hidden wine console compartment.
Elsewhere, a suite of luxury accessories including a hand blown Grange decanter, crafted by leading Australian glass artist and designer, Nick Mount; eight Riedel shiraz glasses; a Chateau Laguiole grand cru black horn sommelier; Monopole ‘Ah So’ cork puller and seven specially curated vinyls among other additions.
“Music, like wine, takes us to another place. It so effortlessly conveys life recollections of important times and places,” says Penfolds chief winemaker Peter Gago. “Our own ‘tastes’ transcend the subjective – we’re the owners and arbiters of what we think is special – Music, Wine. Side by side? Why not; Styles? Maybe we can help!”
The console is being sold for $95,000; penfolds.com.au
