Bespoke is a word that gets bandied around all too often in luxury.
However, for Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa, bespoke is a necessity that drove him to tap British coachbuilder’s Rolls-Royce and lauded historic French maison Hermès for a one-of-a-kind project.
Not content with owning an ‘ordinary’ Phantom, Maezawa paid both luxury imprints to collaborate on his discerning vision.
The final result is a car that features an Oribe green (a custom colour made specifically for Maezawa) and cream exterior – inspired by glazes of antique Japanese Oribe ceramics – of which he is a collector. Further, Maezawa will be able to use the custom paint to decorate his private jet.
Inside expect a plush leather interior finished in Hermès leather called “Enea Green,” which extends to the car’s steering wheel, duchess handles, interiors of the glove compartment, champagne cooler (yes, essential) and more.
“This magnificent expression of our pinnacle product represents a landmark for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, bringing together two houses with more than three centuries’ combined experience and heritage,” says Rolls-Royce Motor Cars CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös.
True to form, details include Hermes “Toile H’ canvas on the door armrests, saddlery-inspired stitching on the leather upholstery, and walnut panels hand-painted with an artwork based on a design by French illustrator Pierre Peron.
As a reminder, the 2021 Rolls-Royce Phantom offers 850Nm and 420kW courtesy of 6.7-litre V12 that reaches 100km/h in just over 5.1-seconds.
Of course, a Rolls-Royce is not concerned with how fast you travel, but more the style in which you travel, and through this exemplary collaboration with French maison Hermès, it seems none do it better.
