Remember when cars simply got you from A to B? Yeah, us neither.
Furthering incredible recent advancements in automotive tech – last night Audi unveiled the heightened capabilities of its Audi Connect Plus, as explored in the new A6, a showpiece that signals the future of a data-focused, intelligent and interconnected driving experience.
Audi Connect Plus utilises data to find relevant information for the driver. What’s the best nearby fuel price? It’s got you covered. Running late for meeting and in need of realtime parking info – drive this way please.
Through the Audi Connect Plus system and smartphone app you can also pinpoint traffic jams and navigate around them, set a geofence and speed alert notifications and lock/unlock a car from anywhere in the world (because, why not?)
Safety is obviously a key priority with all new automotive tech – and here it means, among other functions, an automated or emergency call system that activates at either the press of a button or the deployment of the airbags.
Audi Connect Plus works via an embedded SIM card installed in the factory during manufacture. In Australia, it’s connected to the Telstra mobile network for data services.
Expect Audi Connect Plus in the new A6, A7, Q8 and A8 arrivals in the latter half of 2019 – and in varying capacities across future fleet models.
“The potential for this technology to evolve the way owners use their vehicles is game-changing, and so as a result, the majority of our new models in the future will have Audi Connect Plus as a standard feature when it’s available,” explains Paul Sansom, Managing Director of Audi Australia.
As for the new A6 – lavishly presented last night at Sydney’s Calyx – it’s been modified with emboldened blisters, the largest wheels in its category, an enlarged grill and 17mm more legroom than its predecessor. The interiors are as you’d expect from the German marque – things that work and are user friendly with high-end leathers and first-class finishes.
It’s no slouch either, the 55TSFI boasting 250kW and 500Nm torque giving the car a decent (and alleged) 0-100km/h sprint time of 5.1 seconds – made possible by an impressive turbocharged 3.0 litre V6 engine that paired to 48V Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle technology.
The new A6 starts at $95,500, the 55TFSI S line from $116,000; audi.com.au
