The Absolute collection, released last year, was a sportier take on Girard-Perregaux’s Laureato line-up. Now, the brand has solidified the range with the bold new Laureato Absolute Crystal Rock.
Opting away from the usual yawn-fest that is titanium, Girard-Perregaux has introduced a cutting edge material called carbon glass – a robust material that is formed by the melding of carbon fibre and fibreglass that has been subjected to extreme heat and pressure. The result is an extremely lightweight (94 grams here) material that looks much like a piece of obsidian.
Due to the random streaking caused by the fusion of materials – each of the 100 limited Laureato Absolute Crystal Rocks will differ – like a piece, of well, natural stone.
It measures 44mm in diameter and features the self-winding calibre GP03300 movement – like last year’s flagship Laureato Absolute – and features a power reserve of 46 hours. The material seems to present some difficulties with water-resistance, with the timepiece only capable of 50-metres as opposed to its titanium cousin’s 300-metre rating.
The black and grey sandwich dial coordinates with the colours produced by the carbon glass, obsidian-esque case and is further matched by an integrated grey rubber strap complete with a micro-adjustable buckle mimicking the carbon glass case.
As mentioned, the Laureato Absolute Crystal Rock is limited to 100 pieces and is priced at approx. $24,000.
