It was more than 50-years ago when Willy Breitling unveiled the original Top Time, ushering in a bold new era of timepieces suited to the needs of young and active professionals.
Boasting one of the most recognisable dials in watchmaking, the Top Time, a firm collector’s favourite, has today been reintroduced.
Like the 1960s model that inspired it, the new Breitling Top Time features that immediately recognisable and unconventional design. Affectionately known as the ‘Zorro’ dial, the playful design is then bolstered by the chronograph’s neat performance.
“Breitling aficionados have always loved the Top Time’s dial – it was a watch that appealed to a younger audience committed to enjoying the freedom and spirit of the 1960s, and, amazingly, after all this time, it continues to stand out,” says Breitling CEO Georges Kern.

While the new offering directly takes design cues from before, know it’s also the brand’s first to offer a blockchain-based digital passport – a concerted effort by Breitling and Arianee, the protocol developer, to innovate Breitling’s digital warranty program while combining mid-century charm with instant digital authentication.
Housed inside the Top Time’s 41mm stainless-steel case is Breitling’s calibre 23 chronograph movement boasting a power reserve of 48 hours. The timepiece is also COSC-certified chronometer accurate.

And although it’s missing the Geiger counter that features on James Bond’s wrist in 1965’s Thunderball, the watch boasts a central hour, minute and chronograph seconds hands, the hour markers coated with Super-Luminova. It also features those infamous sub-dials, a second counter at 9 o’clock and 30-minute counter on 3’oclock.
To complement Top Time’s retro reboot, the watch is strapped by a brown nubuck leather strap.
Limited to just 2000 pieces (be quick), at $6,950. Tops indeed.
