Paying tribute to one of its most notable collections, IWC Schaffhausen is taking to the road again. The latest instalment of the IWC Big Pilot Roadshow sees the Swiss manufacture take over the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay this week.
The roving roadshow began in Edinburgh in July 2021, and has since completed over 25 stops throughout Europe, the United States, and Asia, making its Australian debut at Melbourne’s Federation Square last year.
Housed within converted industrial shipping containers, the the hands-on exhibition tells the tale of the Big Pilot watch; charting its evolution from a functional aviation timepiece to the cultural icon it stands as today.

The high-tech booth promises an immersive experience, taking visitors through the manufacture’s illustrious history, while providing insight into the design and manufacturing expertise behind every IWC timepiece. While focused on the Big Pilot—with the Big Pilot’s Watch 43 and Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 on display—the Swiss manufacture’s fine watchmaking complications are also explored.
Other pieces to feature include those from the zeitgeisty ‘Colours of Top Gun’ collection. Rendered in colourful ceramics inspired by the uniforms and landscapes associated with the US Top Gun flight school, highlights include the bright white Lake Tahoe and zen-inducing Woodland green.
Friends of the brand also feature throughout. Mercedes-AMG serves as a primary partner, with the 2023 SL-Class model on display, alongside a showcase of collaborative IWC x Mercedes-AMG Pilot’s timepieces. Partnerships with Sydney institutions like Archie Rose Distillery and Mecca coffee mean speciality brews are also available.
The IWC Big Pilot roadshow is a truly unique horological event not to be missed.
