Airbnb Goes High-End With New Luxe Offering
Home sharing service Airbnb has launched a new category, Airbnb Luxe, to showcase unique and spectacular properties and increase the accessibility of bespoke travel.
The launch of this new tier saw the handpicking of 2000 premium homes from around the world, each passing a strict evaluation across more than 300 criteria. This includes elevated design standards, premium materials and finishes, and rare and unique features.
Each Airbnb Luxe booking also provides access to a dedicated trip designer, to tailor guests’ travel experiences, by booking private chefs, in-house masseuses, personal trainers and nannies, as well as sourcing off-the-beaten-track experiences in the local area.

“Today’s luxury traveller is craving more than just high-end accommodations; they seek transformation and experiences that leave them feeling more connected to each other and to their destination,” says Brian Chesky, Airbnb co-founder, CEO and head of community. “With Airbnb Luxe we are applying the same approach we’ve used since we launched Airbnb more than 11 years ago — creating local, authentic and magical travel moments now in amazing places to stay — to reimagine the way people think and experience luxury travel.”

The homes span from architectural wonders in New Zealand to castles in France and historic villas of Tuscany. There are also urban luxuries with properties in London’s Kensington and Sloane Square, and a home styled after a French country estate in the buzz of Los Angeles. In Australia the list of properties features a penthouse on Bondi Beach, a bright, breezy home in North Bondi, a trophy home in Casuarina on the New South Wales far north coast, and an expansive sub-penthouse in Darlinghurst.

Despite its more humble beginnings, the appetite for luxury homes has become a driver for Airbnb. The company acquired high-end home rental service Luxury Retreats in 2017, and saw a 60 per cent increase in bookings for listings for at least $1000 per night in 2018.
