Roger Dubuis’ Pit-Stop Inspired Excalibur

The latest timepiece from the watchmaker’s collaboration with Pirelli.

By Terry Christodoulou 07/07/2021

At face value, haute horologers Roger Dubuis and tyre manufacturer Pirelli might not have many commonalities. However, the ongoing collaboration between the two brands has delivered yet another innovative new timepiece – the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Pirelli.

The latest from the pair arrives with a 45mm DLC titanium case in black. However, with one click each element of the new Excalibur Spider Pirelli is interchangeable – from strap, to crown and bezel within a single tactile click.

Roger Dubuis cites motorsport’s ‘Pit Stop’, as its inspiration for the customisability, with three ‘kits’ available – red, white or blue – transforming the watch.

Keen collectors should note each colourway is only available in a limited run of 88 kits. Here, the inner design of the strap displays the recognisable design codes of Pirelli with the additional colour kits thicker than the base bezel to mirror the look and feel of a tyre.

The innovation doesn’t end there, with the 45mm timepiece utilising the first automatic skeleton from the manufacture with a transparent view of its self-winding movement held directly on the Roger Dubuis star. Further the timepiece boasts a 60-hour power reserve alongside a micro-rotor is featured at 11 o’clock and the use of heady materials such as DLC titanium.

We predict these racey new watches be around for long.
