A simple, but powerful way to maximise tax savings
It’s coming up to that time of year again.
As we edge closer to 30 June, it’s wise to start thinking about strategies to optimise our tax returns and make the most from our incomes.
One simple, but effective way to generate real tax savings is to take maximum advantage of the deductions available for charitable giving.
It’s a win-win for all involved. Your charity of choice receives much-needed funds. You help people in need – and that’s a great feeling. And you also get to see benefits for your tax bottom line.
The most important thing to remember is that in order to claim a tax deduction, donations generally need to be made to organisations that the Australian Tax Office (ATO) has awarded deductible gift recipient (DGR) status.
Most reputable Australian charities have DGR status. But if you’re unsure, you can look up the DGR status of the charity you are considering on the ATO website.
Of course, when making your donation, another important consideration is what impact it will have on people’s lives.
A donation to World Vision’s Big Impact Appeal goes even further than you think towards tackling hunger, the most pressing challenge facing many families in crisis around the globe.
In partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme, World Vision delivers one of the world’s largest food assistance programs for communities devastated by conflict and natural disaster.
Because of this partnership, your donation can provide up to 18 times its value worth of food assistance.
The World Food Programme provides the food and we use our expertise to deliver comprehensive programs that fight hunger in the long term. This creates added value and lasting impact.
Last year, donations to the Big Impact Appeal helped deliver food assistance to over four million people across 10 countries, including Afghanistan, South Sudan and Uganda.
This April, you’re invited to hear first-hand from World Vision Australia’s Chief Advocate Tim Costello about the difference you can make through the Big Impact Appeal.
Join Tim Costello, in conversation with award-winning journalist and television presenter Del Irani, at one of a series of special evening events being held in the following locations:
Tuesday 2 April – Melbourne
Wednesday 3 April – Sydney
Thursday 4 April – Brisbane
Tuesday 9 April – Adelaide
Wednesday 10 April – Perth
You can register to attend on our website . It’s a great way to kick-start your 2019 tax planning!
