Top Australian Wineries to be Showcased in Bert’s Wine Series
The elegant Bert’s bar and brasserie at The Newport has announced the return of its wine series for a second consecutive year. Curated by Master Sommelier Adrian Filiuta, the series, beginning on April 17, celebrates the work of recognisable Australian vineyards paired with high quality food and conversations with the winemakers.

“We’ve said, what are the most well-known Australian names in wineries and winemakers, and also people that we work closely with. We could have done a burgundy, bordeaux, or any other international topics, but I don’t think that suits Bert’s", Explains Adrian Filiuta.
“We wanted to give a good snapshot of Australian wine, not so focused on the variety, but more of a focus on the region. With this in mind, we created the Bert’s wine series.”
The series begins with Matt Harrop from Curly Flat, a leading Victorian producer of cool-climate pinot noir, chardonnay and pinot gris. Harrop uses 30-year old vines deep in the heart of the Macedon Ranges to create his wines. Guests on the night will be able to delve into the winemaking process as they taste a range of products perfectly accompanied by a four-course meal by Bert’s head chef, Sam Kane.
“The menu is designed around the style of wine, in terms of structure we’ll keep it the same, between 8 and 10 wines served in between four-courses. Some winemakers will maybe bring something that is unreleased or a museum bottle that isn’t commercially available and I think that’s what makes it a little bit special", says Filiuta.

Other notable wineries taking part in the series include By Farr, Leeuwin Estate, Shaw & Smith, Henschke, Vasse Felix, Felton Road, Jim Barry Wines and a range of winemakers from the Yarra Valley and Tasmania.
