Sydney's new Rosetta Ristorante embraces a 'polished casual' vibe

With its sophisticated reputation and to-die-for menu, Rosetta has already made waves as the pinnacle of Italian opulence in the Melbourne dining scene.

Now, Rockpool Dining Group’s Rosetta Ristorante has opened its doors in Sydney.

However, the new restaurant promises to be a little more fun and relaxed than its southern sister, according to Rockpool Dining Group CEO Thomas Pash.

“We think of the restaurant as more polished casual ... the food is definitely fine-dining level, but more approachable,” he told the Robb Report Australia.

The more relaxed approach will be evident as soon as you enter the restaurant. Located in the Harry Seidler-designed Grosvenor Place at the northern end of the CBD, the ambience is light and modern.

The ground floor overlooks a large, open kitchen showing off the crudo and mozzarella bar and the craftsmen working on fresh pasta and homemade bread, all made daily in-house.

There is a beautiful terrace bar, ideal for long, lazy lunches and after-work soirees. An all-day bar menu combined with a playful cocktail and drinks menu means you don’t have to commit to a long lunch. You could easily order an infused bellini or two and snack on pizzettes to while away the afternoon.

There will be more of a seafood focus in the Sydney restaurant, and Rockpool Dining Group Culinary and Brands Director Neil Perry says the focus will be on showcasing some of Australia’s finest ingredients.

Zuppa di pesce, garlic bruschetta

“The seafood and produce we’re sourcing is second to none, the freshness and flavours will speak for themselves and we’ll tease out those stunning characteristics with a simple Italian touch,” he says.

Diners who have tried and loved the Melbourne menu will find many favourites on the menu in Sydney, such as one of their signature dishes, the Tagliolini spanner crab. “It’s one of the best dishes I’ve ever had in my life,” Pash enthuses.
