Go west, foodies, for a star-studded gourmet treat
The focus of Australia’s thriving foodie scene will be transplanted from east coast to west this weekend as Australian and international chefs extraordinaire descend on scenic Margaret River south of Perth for the annual Gourmet Escape, presented by Audi.
Among the throng will be the queen of gastronomic decadence, Nigella Lawson, who leads an international cast including Ashley Palmer-Watts (Dinner By Heston Blumenthal, London), Andoni Luis Aduriz (Mugaritz, Spain), Rick and Jack Stein of the UK’s Rick Stein Group, Joan Roca (El Celler de Can Roca, Spain), Mauro Colagreco (Mirazur, France), Riccardo Caminini (Lido 84, Italy) and cocktail experimentalist Tony Conigliaro.
Local luminaries include Guillame Brahimi (Guillame, Sydney), Frank Camorra (MoVida, Melbourne, Peter Gilmore (Bennelong and Quay, Sydney), Guy and Carlo Grossi (Grossi, Melbourne), Mitch Orr (ACME and Bar Brose, Sydney), Scott Pickett (Estelle and Saint Crispin, Melbourne), food reviewer Jill Dupleix, and wine experts James Halliday and Tyson Stelzer.
Over a long weekend at a variety of venues in and around Margaret River, food and drinks will be tasted, imbibed and discussed at long lunches, dinners, beach barbecues, cellar doors and Q&A sessions. Spacing out the non-stop gluttony will be music, movies and markets to enjoy.
