Experience 5 star glamping at Sirromet winery
After a long lunch at award winning Restaurant Lurleen’s, followed by a Sirromet Chardonnay in the sunshine gazing at the picturesque Mount Cotton, it’s probably difficult to muster the enthusiasm for even the 30-minute journey from the Sirromet Winery back to Brisbane. From May 2018, ‘Sanctuary by Sirromet’ will offer an alternative, with guests able to stay in “glamping” accommodation, comprising 18 superbly appointed tented pavilions.
These luxurious tents enable guests to connect with nature without sacrificing comfort. Each pavilion will have a private balcony, giving the aspect of a treehouse, and will have views of the spectacular surroundings including the canopy of paperbark trees and giant scribble gums and the lake.
Although there is already a four-bedroom guesthouse on site, owner Terry Morris knew they needed more: “We have wanted to create extra accommodation here at Sirromet for some time, but it needed to be something unique and in keeping with the natural surroundings.”
Unique it certainly is – each tent is made of durable double-layered all-weather canvas, but the interiors are more like those of a hotel suite. Each of the 15 couples’ tents, two family tents and one bridal suite will feature king beds, top of the line linen and even reverse cycle air-conditioning.
There will be an en-suite bathroom plus important touches such as hair dryers, irons and free wi-fi. One thing absent will be television – the tents have been declared TV-free zones, to encourage immersion with the tranquil surroundings. Guests are indeed more likely to be entertained by the local kookaburras, monitor lizards, owls and the variety of birds and resident wallabies who graze freely around.
There’s also the distraction of the Sirromet wines in the well-stocked mini-bar and the need to decide where to enjoy your evening meal - The Cellar Door Café for casual dining; Italian inspired Tuscan Terrace or the aforementioned fine dining option, Restaurant Lurleen’s.
There will be a two-night minimum stay, rates will start from $280 to $480 per night and will include a locally sourced breakfast hamper.
