The world's rarest real estate up for grabs on Sydney Harbour

Some of the world’s rarest real estate is up for grabs, complete with prime Sydney Harbour frontage, spectacular views of the city’s two most iconic attractions and direct access onto Macquarie Street.

Opera Residences, as the name suggests, is little more than a stone’s throw from Jørn Utzon’s world-famous white sails, and beholds the magnificent Harbour Bridge from virtually every residence. Nestled directly alongside Circular Quay, it’s also a lofty perch from which to gaze over the harbour’s hustle and bustle.

To be located on the site of the former Coca Cola Amatil headquarters known as Bennelong Point, it already holds the distinction of attracting Australia’s most expensive residential transaction after a Sydney resident paid $26 million for a 272 sq m penthouse that will be situated on Level 19. That translates to around $95,500 per square metre, almost double the highest per-metre yield previously seen in Sydney. The woman also dropped a further $31 million on two sub-penthouses on the floors below for her children.

“For nearly 25 years, no buyers have been able to purchase a freehold residential residence ‘off the plan’ in this incredible, world famous location – and it’s highly likely this buying opportunity will never be repeated,” says Tim Rees of selling agent CBRE.

“Opera Residences ... will attract buyers from all over the world and we are also expecting to see substantial interest from the existing Macquarie Street neighbours as they consider upgrading to a newer, more modern building design with superior view lines across the harbour.”

The building has been designed by Tzannes Architects in collaboration with Crone Architects, with an exterior shape that draws inspiration from the ebb and flow of the harbour it overlooks.

Living Kitchen

Inside, fastidious attention has been paid to luxurious details with surfaces including marble, travertine, parquetry timbers and inlaid Flemish copper. Owners of the 104 residences (55 x 1BR, 22 x 2BR, 25 x 3BR, two penthouses) will have access to an intimate lounge, library and wine store, as well as pool, spa and gym facilities.

Construction is set to begin in April 2017 and be completed in December 2019.
