Three hotels offering workouts you’ll actually want to do
Anyone who has travelled for business knows how hard it can be to take care of personal fitness while on the road. When you’re attending back-to-back meetings and travelling at all hours, pacing on the treadmill in a soulless hotel gym usually comes last on the priority list.
To help make exercise more appealing, the Westin Hotel & Resorts group launched their ‘Let’s Rise Workout Series’. It’s an in-room, High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workout program with six videos allowing guests to get a proper workout in without the need for specialised equipment.
There are two 15-minute, full-body HIIT work-outs, two eight-minute ab attacks, a short warm-up session, and a cooldown and stretch routine, all hosted by certified health coach, television presenter and model Rachael Finch.
Finch says: “The videos we’ve created are designed to inspire guests, regardless of their fitness level, to incorporate a workout in their daily routine and ensure health stays a priority, regardless of where they are and how much time they have to spare.”
These videos are part of an ongoing commitment from Westin to encourage guests to maintain their health and wellbeing while travelling. Other initiatives include being able to borrow workout gear from One Balance. In the US, selected guest rooms have in-room Peloton bikes, allowing guests to cycle from the comfort of their own room. westin.com
Fitness kiosk in Hilton hotels
In the US, hotel chain Hilton has launched the ‘Five Feet to Fitness’ concept, a fitness kiosk in your room that has 11 types of equipment and accessories.
There is a touchscreen display with expert tutorials and guided workout routines with accessories provided to create strength, core, suspension, HIIT-style workouts or even a bike for indoor cycling exercise.
Currently only available at Hilton McLean Tysons Corner and Parc 55 San Francisco, it’s coming soon to Hilton Hotels in Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Las Vegas, New York and San Diego. fivefeettofitness.hilton.com/
Yoga oasis in an urban environment
Closer to home is Perth’s Como - The Treasury hotel, which was recently named Best Hotel in Australia and New Zealand in the Reader’s Choice Awards 2017 by Conde Nast Traveller.
The Treasury is a luxury urban hotel, but the brand is also focused on wellness and features the Shambhala Urban Escape, a retreat solely dedicated to yoga, clinical Pilates and personal training.
If you’d like to de-stress at the end of a hard day with some sun salutes and downward dogs, you can arrange private yoga instruction in the state-of-the-art facilities.
There are also personal training sessions available to ensure your workout goals aren’t derailed by being on the road. comohotels.com
