Ermenegildo Zegna takes its Pelle Tessuta method into exciting new territories

When a young Ermenegildo Zegna first began using the looms owned by his father in his family mill never could he have dreamed just how much his vision for mastering the art of weaving would continue to innovate the fashion industry more than a century later.

The company, which is still owned and run by the Zegna family, has now built upon its range utilising the brands exclusive fabric creation - Pelle Tessuta.

Pelle Tessuta - which literally means woven leather - was first seen in Zegna’s ‘16 collection. The method sees thin strands of nappa leather weaved on the brand’s traditional looms creating a lightweight and pliable fabric.

The fabric is soft to the touch, creating the appearance of a tightly woven piece of cloth, akin to a delicately crafted suit.

The fashion house has created this method to be used on men’s fashion accessories such as business bags, headphones and iPhone cases.

Zegna’s creation is an exceptionally rare feature for the company at a time when fashion houses seem to align themselves with as being either innovation or heritage centred. Zegna, however, has managed to combine – and prosper - by marrying both spheres.
